William Starrett’s gothic ballet returns to the Koger Center for the Arts October 23 and 24, 2026.

COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina Ballet’s Dracula: Ballet with a Bite was recently featured on WIS ahead of its upcoming performances at the Koger Center for the Arts.

The feature offers audiences a closer look at William Starrett’s original production, which premiered in 1991 and marks its 35th anniversary in 2026.

Combining classical ballet with gothic storytelling, Dracula: Ballet with a Bite explores the darker side of romance through dramatic choreography, elaborate costumes, and theatrical staging. Inspired by Bram Stoker’s novel, the production has become a distinctive part of South Carolina Ballet’s repertoire.

This year’s Columbia performances take place Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, at 7:30 p.m. Both evenings will also feature a Halloween Costume Contest, inviting audience members to embrace the production’s gothic atmosphere.
