Pointe shoes are essential to every ballerina’s artistry, strength, and safety. Through South Carolina Ballet’s Matching Pointe Shoe Campaign, your contribution helps provide our professional dancers with the shoes they need to rehearse, perform, and bring extraordinary ballet to audiences across South Carolina.
South Carolina Ballet is proud to partner with Lexington Health, Matching Sponsor of the Pointe Shoe Campaign. Together, we are working to provide our 26 female dancers with a safe and reliable supply of pointe shoes throughout the season.
A single professional dancer can go through more than 20 pairs of pointe shoes in one season.

Why Pointe Shoes Matter
Pointe shoes may appear delicate, but they provide the structure and support required for a ballerina to balance, turn, and dance on the tips of her toes.
As the shoes are used, they gradually soften and lose their structural integrity. Worn shoes can limit a dancer’s ability to perform safely and may increase the risk of stress fractures and other foot and ankle injuries. A dependable supply of properly fitted shoes is therefore essential to both the dancer and the performance.
A single professional dancer may use more than 20 pairs in one season, with each pair costing approximately $85. Across an entire company, this necessary expense adds up quickly.
