South Carolina Ballet presented its Étoile Award to Jared Smith and Louise Burns during the company’s 2026–2027 Season Launch Party on August 28 at the Columbia home of Margaret Clarkson and Peter Roney. The event marked the opening of South Carolina Ballet’s 66th performance season.
The Étoile Award is South Carolina Ballet’s highest honor and recognizes individuals whose service and philanthropy have played an important role in advancing the organization’s mission.
Jared Smith, President of the South Carolina Ballet Board of Directors, received the Étoile Award for Dedicated Service and Unwavering Generosity. Smith was recognized for his leadership of the Board, his commitment to the organization, and his personal generosity in support of South Carolina Ballet’s continued growth.
Louise Burns, a member of the South Carolina Ballet Board of Directors, received the Étoile Award in Recognition of Extraordinary Generosity, Making Excellence and Lasting Impact Possible. Burns was honored for philanthropic support that has strengthened the company and contributed directly to its artistic work.
The awards were presented as South Carolina Ballet’s professional dance artists, board members, patrons, and friends gathered to celebrate the beginning of the new season.
