Company Instructor & Prima Ballerina, Repetiteur

Company Instructor and Repetiteur, Mariclare Miranda, began her ballet training at the age of 7 with Columbia City Ballet’s founding Artistic Director, Ann Brodie. In 1976, she joined Columbia City Ballet, now South Carolina Ballet, becoming a Soloist in 1980, Principal Dancer in 1982, and attained the rank of Ballerina in 1984. Ms. Miranda was named Prima Ballerina in 1997 and was awarded a South Carolina Arts Commission Fellowship. To date, she is the only Prima Ballerina in South Carolina Ballet’s 63-year history! Ms. Miranda has danced every ballerina role in South Carolina Ballet’s classical repertoire. Her contemporary full-length premieres included the title roles in Beauty & the Beast, Dracula: Ballet with a Bite, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Pocahontas. Upon her retirement in 2005, she was awarded the Key to the City of Columbia and the distinguished Order of the Palmetto by the State of South Carolina. She last appeared on stage as Lady Capulet in the 2023 production of Romeo & Juliet. With more than 30 years of teaching experience, she is a co-founder and Principal Instructor of Columbia Conservatory of Dance. Ms. Miranda continues to nurture our future dancers, coach and instruct South Carolina Ballet company members.
