Romeo & Juliet

The timeless love story

Experience the timeless love story of “Romeo and Juliet” with the South Carolina Ballet.

With stunning staging by William Starrett, this production delves deep into the heart of Shakespeare’s tragic tale. The State has called it “perfect for the romantic at heart.” Principal dancers Claire Rapp and Joshua Van Dyke return as the iconic star-crossed lovers. Ms. Rapp, who captivated audiences as Juliet during the 2021-2022 season, eagerly returns to the role. Mr. Van Dyke, reprising his role as Romeo from 2022, promises another dynamic and emotionally charged performance.

Our Columbia performances feature live music by the South Carolina Ballet Orchestra, conducted live by Scott Weiss. The ballet portrays the intense romance of two young lovers caught in the turmoil of their feuding families. Executive and Artistic Director William Starrett’s vision intertwines dramatic sword fights, tender love duets, and humorous moments, creating an unforgettable evening that captures the essence of Shakespeare’s masterpiece.
